In 1988, originally from the city of Montreal, Lieutenant (Navy) José Domingos joined the cadets. In 1991, he enlisted as an infantryman in the Canadian Armed Forces with the Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal. In 2001, he joined the Régiment de la Chaudière. During his years, he participated in Operation HARMONY in the former Yugoslavia in 1995. In 1996, he took part in Operation STABLE in Haiti. He took part at the domestic level in Operation RÉCUPERATION the ice storm in Quebec and Operation ABACUS with the passage of the year of 2000.

In 2006, he transferred to the Regular Force as a pilot officer. In 2009, having received his pilot wings, he was transferred to 430 Tactical Helicopter Squadron. During this assignment, he carried out several operations including Operation NANOOK 2011 in Resolute Bay. In 2011 with Operation LOTUS in Montérégie and in 2013 during Operation NEVUS in Eureka, Nunavut, where the crews received a collective commendation from CJOC for a SAR mission in the high Arctic.

In July 2014, he was transferred on exchange to the 1st Combat Helicopter Regiment in Phalsbourg, France, as a staff officer and combat pilot on the Gazelle. Integrated into the French troops, he took part in two combat missions of Operation BARKHANE in 2015-16, for which he received the equivalent of a commendation from the Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces, and a second deployment in 2017.

In July 2017, he joined the 438th Tactical Helicopter Squadron in Saint-Hubert as an instructor in the aviation tactics flight. There, he assumed the duties of instructor, deputy squadron commander and operations officer. He participated in Operation CADENCE in Charlevoix and Operation LENTUS in Montreal. With the RCAF, he also participated in some missions of Operation SABOT in Quebec. Promoted to major, on June 18, 2019, he became the 45th commanding officer of 439 Combat Support Squadron until July 31, 2022. At that time, in addition to having commanded throughout Operation LASER during the COVID pandemic crisis, he accumulated 16 SAR missions and more than 2,000 flight hours.

On October 4, 2022, he made a change by joining the Naval Reserve as a Naval Warfare Officer as Operations Officer of HMCS Montcalm. In the meantime, he was project manager with the Montreal Fire Department to set up the 6th Canadian Task Force, an urban search and rescue team.

He is on the boards of directors of the Quebec Veterans Foundation and a branch of the Navy League of Canada.

Lieutenant(N) Domingos holds a Bachelor of Military Arts and Science from the Royal Military College in Kingston and is a graduate of the Canadian Army Command and Staff College. He is happily married to Capt (retd) Christine Lavallière, CD and their love has given them a daughter, Sibylle.
